63 A psalm of David, written when he was in the Judean wilderness. 1
O God, you are my God! I long for you! 2
My soul thirsts 3 for you,
my flesh yearns for you,
in a dry and parched 4 land where there is no water.
2 Yes, 5 in the sanctuary I have seen you, 6
and witnessed 7 your power and splendor.
3 Because 8 experiencing 9 your loyal love is better than life itself,
my lips will praise you.
4 For this reason 10 I will praise you while I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands. 11
5 As if with choice meat 12 you satisfy my soul. 13
My mouth joyfully praises you, 14
6 whenever 15 I remember you on my bed,
and think about you during the nighttime hours.
7 For you are my deliverer; 16
under your wings 17 I rejoice.
8 My soul 18 pursues you; 19
your right hand upholds me.
9 Enemies seek to destroy my life, 20
but they will descend into the depths of the earth. 21
10 Each one will be handed over to the sword; 22
their corpses will be eaten by jackals. 23
11 But the king 24 will rejoice in God;
everyone who takes oaths in his name 25 will boast,
for the mouths of those who speak lies will be shut up. 26
64 For the music director; a psalm of David.
Listen to me, 27 O God, as I offer my lament!
Protect 28 my life from the enemy’s terrifying attacks. 29
2 Hide me from the plots of evil men,
from the crowd of evildoers. 30
3 They 31 sharpen their tongues like a sword;
they aim their arrow, a slanderous charge, 32
4 in order to shoot down the innocent 33 in secluded places.
They shoot at him suddenly and are unafraid of retaliation. 34
5 They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. 35
They plan how to hide 36 snares,
and boast, 37 “Who will see them?” 38
6 They devise 39 unjust schemes;
they disguise 40 a well-conceived plot. 41
Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered. 42
7 But God will shoot 43 at them;
suddenly they will be 44 wounded by an arrow. 45
8 Their slander will bring about their demise. 46
All who see them will shudder, 47
9 and all people will fear. 48
They will proclaim 49 what God has done,
and reflect on his deeds.
10 The godly will rejoice in the Lord
and take shelter in him.
All the morally upright 50 will boast. 51
65 For the music director; a psalm of David, a song.
Praise awaits you, 52 O God, in Zion.
Vows made to you are fulfilled.
2 You hear prayers; 53
all people approach you. 54
3 Our record of sins overwhelms me, 55
but you forgive 56 our acts of rebellion.
4 How blessed 57 is the one whom you choose,
and allow to live in your palace courts. 58
May we be satisfied with the good things of your house –
your holy palace. 59
5 You answer our prayers by performing awesome acts of deliverance,
O God, our savior. 60
All the ends of the earth trust in you, 61
as well as those living across the wide seas. 62
6 You created the mountains by your power, 63
and demonstrated your strength. 64
7 You calm the raging seas 65
and their roaring waves,
as well as the commotion made by the nations. 66
8 Even those living in the most remote areas are awestruck by your acts; 67
you cause those living in the east and west to praise you. 68
9 You visit the earth and give it rain; 69
you make it rich and fertile 70
with overflowing streams full of water. 71
You provide grain for them, 72
for you prepare the earth to yield its crops. 73
10 You saturate 74 its furrows,
and soak 75 its plowed ground. 76
With rain showers you soften its soil, 77
and make its crops grow. 78
11 You crown the year with your good blessings, 79
and you leave abundance in your wake. 80
12 The pastures in the wilderness glisten with moisture, 81
and the hills are clothed with joy. 82
13 The meadows are clothed with sheep,
and the valleys are covered with grain.
They shout joyfully, yes, they sing.
66 For the music director; a song, a psalm.
Shout out praise to God, all the earth!
2 Sing praises about the majesty of his reputation! 83
Give him the honor he deserves! 84
3 Say to God:
“How awesome are your deeds!
Because of your great power your enemies cower in fear 85 before you.
4 All the earth worships 86 you
and sings praises to you!
They sing praises to your name!” (Selah)
5 Come and witness 87 God’s exploits! 88
His acts on behalf of people are awesome! 89
6 He turned the sea into dry land; 90
they passed through the river on foot. 91
Let us rejoice in him there! 92
7 He rules 93 by his power forever;
he watches 94 the nations.
Stubborn rebels should not exalt 95 themselves. (Selah)
8 Praise 96 our God, you nations!
Loudly proclaim his praise! 97
9 He preserves our lives 98
and does not allow our feet to slip.
10 For 99 you, O God, tested us;
you purified us like refined silver.
11 You led us into a trap; 100
you caused us to suffer. 101
12 You allowed men to ride over our heads;
we passed through fire and water,
but you brought us out into a wide open place. 102
13 I will enter 103 your temple with burnt sacrifices;
I will fulfill the vows I made to you,
14 which my lips uttered
and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer up to you fattened animals as burnt sacrifices,
along with the smell of sacrificial rams.
I will offer cattle and goats. (Selah)
16 Come! Listen, all you who are loyal to God! 104
I will declare what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him for help 105
and praised him with my tongue. 106
18 If I had harbored sin in my heart, 107
the Lord would not have listened.
19 However, God heard;
he listened to my prayer.
20 God deserves praise, 108
for 109 he did not reject my prayer
or abandon his love for me! 110
67 For the music director; to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm, a song.
May God show us his favor 111 and bless us! 112
May he smile on us! 113 (Selah)
2 Then those living on earth will know what you are like;
all nations will know how you deliver your people. 114
3 Let the nations thank you, O God!
Let all the nations thank you! 115
4 Let foreigners 116 rejoice and celebrate!
For you execute justice among the nations,
and govern the people living on earth. 117 (Selah)
5 Let the nations thank you, O God!
Let all the nations thank you! 118
6 The earth yields its crops.
May God, our God, bless us!
7 May God bless us! 119
Then all the ends of the earth will give him the honor he deserves. 120
68 For the music director; by David, a psalm, a song.
God springs into action! 121
His enemies scatter;
his adversaries 122 run from him. 123
2 As smoke is driven away by the wind, so you drive them away. 124
As wax melts before fire,
so the wicked are destroyed before God.
3 But the godly 125 are happy;
they rejoice before God
and are overcome with joy. 126
4 Sing to God! Sing praises to his name!
Exalt the one who rides on the clouds! 127
For the Lord is his name! 128
Rejoice before him!
5 He is a father to the fatherless
and an advocate for widows. 129
God rules from his holy palace. 130
6 God settles those who have been deserted in their own homes; 131
he frees prisoners and grants them prosperity. 132
But sinful rebels live in the desert. 133
7 O God, when you lead your people into battle, 134
when you march through the desert, 135 (Selah)
8 the earth shakes,
yes, the heavens pour down rain
before God, the God of Sinai, 136
before God, the God of Israel. 137
9 O God, you cause abundant showers to fall 138 on your chosen people. 139
When they 140 are tired, you sustain them, 141
10 for you live among them. 142
You sustain the oppressed with your good blessings, O God.
11 The Lord speaks; 143
many, many women spread the good news. 144
12 Kings leading armies run away – they run away! 145
The lovely lady 146 of the house divides up the loot.
13 When 147 you lie down among the sheepfolds, 148
the wings of the dove are covered with silver
and with glittering gold. 149
14 When the sovereign judge 150 scatters kings, 151
let it snow 152 on Zalmon!
15 The mountain of Bashan 153 is a towering mountain; 154
the mountain of Bashan is a mountain with many peaks. 155
16 Why do you look with envy, 156 O mountains 157 with many peaks,
at the mountain where God has decided to live? 158
Indeed 159 the Lord will live there 160 permanently!
17 God has countless chariots;
they number in the thousands. 161
The Lord comes from Sinai in holy splendor. 162
18 You ascend on high, 163
you have taken many captives. 164
You receive tribute 165 from 166 men,
including even sinful rebels.
Indeed the Lord God lives there! 167
19 The Lord deserves praise! 168
Day after day 169 he carries our burden,
the God who delivers us. (Selah)
20 Our God is a God who delivers;
the Lord, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death. 170
21 Indeed God strikes the heads of his enemies,
the hairy foreheads of those who persist in rebellion. 171
22 The Lord says,
“I will retrieve them 172 from Bashan,
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
23 so that your feet may stomp 173 in their blood,
and your dogs may eat their portion of the enemies’ corpses.” 174
24 They 175 see your processions, O God –
the processions of my God, my king, who marches along in holy splendor. 176
25 Singers walk in front;
musicians follow playing their stringed instruments, 177
in the midst of young women playing tambourines. 178
26 In your large assemblies praise God,
the Lord, in the assemblies of Israel! 179
27 There is little Benjamin, their ruler, 180
and the princes of Judah in their robes, 181
along with the princes of Zebulun and the princes of Naphtali.
28 God has decreed that you will be powerful. 182
O God, you who have acted on our behalf, demonstrate your power,
29 as you come out of your temple in Jerusalem! 183
Kings bring tribute to you.
30 Sound your battle cry 184 against the wild beast of the reeds, 185
and the nations that assemble like a herd of calves led by bulls! 186
They humble themselves 187 and offer gold and silver as tribute. 188
God 189 scatters 190 the nations that like to do battle.
31 They come with red cloth 191 from Egypt,
Ethiopia 192 voluntarily offers tribute 193 to God.
32 O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God!
Sing praises to the Lord, (Selah)
33 to the one who rides through the sky from ancient times! 194
Look! He thunders loudly. 195
34 Acknowledge God’s power, 196
his sovereignty over Israel,
and the power he reveals in the skies! 197
35 You are awe-inspiring, O God, as you emerge from your holy temple! 198
It is the God of Israel 199 who gives the people power and strength.
God deserves praise! 200
