3 A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom. 1
Lord, how 2 numerous are my enemies!
Many attack me. 3
2 Many say about me,
“God will not deliver him.” 4 (Selah) 5
3 But you, Lord, are a shield that protects me; 6
you are my glory 7 and the one who restores me. 8
4 To the Lord I cried out, 9
and he answered me from his holy hill. 10 (Selah)
5 I rested and slept;
I awoke, 11 for the Lord protects 12 me.
6 I am not afraid 13 of the multitude of people 14
who attack me from all directions. 15
7 Rise up, 16 Lord!
Deliver me, my God!
Yes, 17 you will strike 18 all my enemies on the jaw;
you will break the teeth 19 of the wicked. 20
8 The Lord delivers; 21
you show favor to your people. 22 (Selah)
4 For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of David.
When I call out, answer me,
O God who vindicates me! 1
Though I am hemmed in, you will lead me into a wide, open place. 2
Have mercy on me 3 and respond to 4 my prayer!
2 You men, 5 how long will you try to turn my honor into shame? 6
How long 7 will you love what is worthless 8
and search for what is deceptive? 9 (Selah)
3 Realize that 10 the Lord shows the godly special favor; 11
the Lord responds 12 when I cry out to him.
4 Tremble with fear and do not sin! 13
Meditate as you lie in bed, and repent of your ways! 14 (Selah)
5 Offer the prescribed sacrifices 15
and trust in the Lord! 16
6 Many say, “Who can show us anything good?”
Smile upon us, Lord! 17
7 You make me happier 18
than those who have abundant grain and wine. 19
8 I will lie down and sleep peacefully, 20
for you, Lord, make me safe and secure. 21
